The unofficial start of the Expedition left General Clark's cabin shores at Clarksville, Indiana and today's downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Heading downstream to today's tiny town of Cairo, Illinois where the Ohio River merges into the mighty Mississippi River. The bridge and view of this confluence of the two huge rivers is near breathly taking, and looks more like an ocean from the top of the bridge. Up the Mississippi they eventually stopped for their winter camp at Camp Dubois. Due to the arrival of winter they stowed their supplies and tools to await their official departure in the early spring of 1804.
